Atelier

Workshop

Just a few minutes from Nafplio’s historic center, the Francesco Moretti Atelier opens the doors of its creative space to offer you an authentic and engaging artistic experience.
Perfect for families, couples, friends, or solo travelers, the workshop allows you to explore both traditional and contemporary artistic techniques in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
No prior experience is required—only curiosity and the desire to create.
Choose from a wide range of artistic techniques to express your creativity and take home your own original artwork:
Etching or linocut: create unique prints by engraving metal plates or linoleum blocks and printing them on paper.
Painting: experiment with watercolors or acrylics, drawing inspiration from the beauty of Nafplio or from your imagination.
Creative group games: fun activities such as collaborative canvases or artistic challenges.
Metal sculpture with electric welding: discover the art of welding and create small iron sculptures.

1. Painting and Music Workshop

The workshop, when held in small groups, begins with group games aimed at helping participants get to know each other and/or reduce interpersonal distances.
These activities are also designed to activate creative thinking, relax participants, and free them from stress, so they are ready to begin the workshop.
Finally, the goal is to connect with the senses and the suggestions of the surrounding environment.
The games are based on theatrical play techniques and take place in a large space that allows movement.
They usually last 20–30 minutes.
Once a state of relaxation and focus is achieved, participants move on to the second phase of the workshop.

With eyes closed and listening to music, participants are invited to trace lines on the canvas, as if the pastel were a dance instrument gliding over the surface. The first marks may be straight lines, curves, jagged strokes, or simple doodles. This process can lead to an abstract composition: the union of different lines defines areas and creates shapes.

It is an excellent way to begin and lay the foundation for the work to follow, since the drawing phase—often perceived as difficult by those who feel they lack skills—happens spontaneously, guided only by emotions and gestures suggested by the music. Therefore, it is not necessary to start with an idea or theme.

Once the drawing stage is complete, participants begin to color their work. The aim is to find a pictorial balance through the combination of different colors. Some lines will be retraced with a brush and “fixed,” while others will be erased or covered with new colors. The choice of colors, their intensity, the degree of transparency, brightness, brush rhythm, and the various painting techniques used are all variables that participants will explore freely, with the guidance of the instructor.

At the end of the workshop, each participant will have completed their own abstract artwork and will be able to take it home as a memory of the experience and of the creative process they lived—one inspired by the senses and the atmosphere of a place that encourages creativity and fosters a connection with art.

Workshop goal: Creation of an abstract visual artwork on canvas using mixed techniques.

2. Engraving Workshop
for Children and Adults

This workshop, designed for children and adults, aims to introduce engraving and printmaking techniques through play. The star of this artistic game is the tangram.

The tangram is a Chinese puzzle with a history dating back to the 1800s. It is made up of seven flat geometric shapes. At first, it is assembled to form a square. By combining its pieces into different patterns, hundreds of stylized images can be created, representing animals, people, objects, numbers, and letters of the alphabet.

The workshop begins with a short explanation of the game’s rules. Participants will then try to combine the seven pieces to create their favorite shapes. This very simple and minimalist game stimulates observation and logical reasoning. Looking at a black figure (a silhouette), participants will have to figure out how to assemble the pieces to reproduce it.

After this playful first phase, the workshop moves on to explaining what printmaking is and how a matrix is built. Then participants proceed to the actual printmaking process. They will reproduce their favorite figures, but this time using a special tangram made of seven linoleum-carved plates (linocut technique). This will be followed by the inking and printing phase on paper.

Children and adults alike will thus become the protagonists of this creative process from beginning to end, taking home a real engraved artwork.

Workshop goal:
To allow participants to understand, design, and print an engraving through a playful and creative process.

Target audience: The workshop is open to children and adults of all ages, from 4 to 99 years old.

All materials are included in the participation fee. Participants are advised to wear clothing suitable for an art workshop. Typographic inks will be used.
